Bengaluru: BJP leader accused of rape; case filed

A woman has filed a complaint against BJP leader Somasekhar Jayaram alias ‘Gym Soma’ at Ashoknagar Police Station, alleging that he raped her after forcing her to consume alcohol.

The 26-year-old victim accused Soma of luring her to his flat under the pretense of offering a loan for her wedding and then committing the assault.

The victim became acquainted with Soma through a mutual friend. She had got engaged last year and had approached Soma for financial help amounting to approximately Rs 6 lakh for her wedding expenses.

According to her complaint, Soma took her to his flat in October 2024 and assaulted her. The police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
