Twist in naxalite surrender: Naxals to surrender in Bengaluru instead of Chikkamagaluru

PTI, Jan 8, 2025, 1:54 PM IST

Chikkamagaluru: Six Naxals, who were scheduled to surrender before the district administration in Chikkamagaluru, will now surrender in Bengaluru in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Preparations had been made for their surrender in Chikkamagaluru. However, responding to the Chief Minister’s order, the surrender will now take place in Bengaluru.

The parents of the six Naxals were eagerly waiting outside the Chikkamagaluru district office. However, the plans underwent a sudden change, and vehicles have now been arranged to transport the families to Bengaluru.

The surrender is expected to happen today (January 8) by afternoon or evening in the presence of the Chief Minister.

The Naxals, who had earlier reached Narasimharajapura, changed their route and proceeded to Bengaluru following instructions from the Chief Minister. Leaders of the organization who had arrived in Chikkamagaluru have also headed towards Bengaluru.

Speaking about the change in plans, KL Ashok, leader of the Nagarika Vedike, stated that the decision was made in the interest of maintaining peace.

Statement by Mundagaaru Latha’s brother, Sheshegowda:

“Our parents’ youngest daughter, Mundagaaru Latha, left home 24 years ago to fight against the system. Her decision to return to the mainstream is a moment of joy for us. The government must fulfill her demands,” said Sheshegowda, brother of Mundagaaru Latha.
