Belagavi: A fight between two brothers escalated under the influence of ganja, leading to the death of one and critical injuries to the other in Nilaji village, Belagavi taluk, on Friday, January 10.
The deceased has been identified as Sushant Subhash Patil (20). His brother Omkar Subhash Patil (23) sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in Belagavi.
The siblings, often reprimanded by their parents for neglecting household chores and aimlessly loitering, reportedly argued on Friday afternoon. They quarrelled over who should take up the household work.
The matter escalated later that night when the two were reportedly smoking ganja on the staircase of their two-story home. The argument turned into a physical fight, during which both brothers fell from the second floor.
It is gathered that Sushant died on the spot, and Omkar was critically injured and was taken to hospital.
Marihal police visited the scene and are investigating the incident.
