Vijayapura: A woman, along with her four young children, jumped into a water canal reportedly in a bid to end her life near Nidagundi taluk’s Benal village on Monday, January 13.

The woman, identified as Bhagya Shree Ningappa Bhajantri (26) from Telagi village in Kolar taluk, was rescued by local fishermen and residents who noticed the incident. However, her four children were swept away in the canal.

Two children, Tanushree (5) and Suraksha (3) were found dead, while the search is ongoing for the 13-month-old twin boys. Authorities said their chances of survival are minimal.

Preliminary reports suggest that the woman took this drastic step due to family disputes. Fire department personnel, along with Nidagundi police, including CPI Ashok Chauhan and PSI officers, are coordinating the search operation with local help.
