Mangaluru: Members of the BJP staged a protest in Mangaluru on January 13 condemning the gruesome attack on cows in Bengaluru’s Chamarajpet.

Addressing the protesters, Legislative Council member Ravikumar criticized the state government for failing to protect cows. Kumar alleged that the government only makes superficial statements but does nothing concrete. The incident in Chamarajpet is shameful for humanity.

He claimed that the udders of cows were mutilated, and their legs were hacked with machete. The CCTV cameras were turned off before the act. The government has arrested a person from Bihar, but this seems to be a smokescreen, he said.

All the real culprits must be arrested, he demanded.

Ravi Kumar also alleged that illegal cow transportation and slaughter were rampant in rural areas. “Neither cows nor humans are safe. If the government cannot protect cows, they should resign. Compensation of at least Rs 5 lakh per injured cow should be provided to their owners. The government has failed repeatedly to ensure cow protection. Even attempts were made by extremist forces to vacate land meant for a veterinary hospital. That land should be used for a cowshed,” he added.

“(Minister) Zameer has promised to provide three cows, but giving cows is not a solution to this incident. The government should create a blacklist of those involved in cow slaughter and smuggling to instill fear among them. Does the government have the courage to arrest such individuals? These perpetrators and terrorists are emboldened due to the government’s inaction. If Congress claims to follow Gandhian principles, they should be ashamed. You talk about spreading Gandhi’s ideals to every household, but with what face will you do so? First, protect cows, as Gandhi advocated,” he said.

Another Legislative Council member, Pratap Simha Nayak, stated, “This heinous act was carried out to instill fear among those who worship cows. Such incidents are evidence of how anti-social elements are being emboldened under the Congress government.”

MLC Kishore Kumar Puttur, BJP District President Satish Kumpala, and other party leaders also participated in the protest.
