Bengaluru: A man has been arrested by the Vidhana Soudha police for allegedly making a hoax call to the police control room, claiming that bomb blasts were planned in various parts of the city on Republic Day. The call was reportedly made to disrupt his business rivals.

The accused, identified as Mansoor (40) from Shivajinagar, was apprehended based on a complaint filed by PSI M. Subramani from the police commissioner’s control room.

Case details:

On January 9, around 5:30 PM, a man introduced himself as Riyaz and called the city police control room. He provided the names and phone numbers of six individuals, claiming they were conspiring to carry out bomb blasts across Bengaluru on Republic Day, similar to the Rameshwaram Café bombings. The caller abruptly ended the conversation, raising suspicions among the control room staff.

Based on the complaint, the Vidhana Soudha police registered a case and tracked the caller using the provided phone number. During interrogation, the accused revealed his real identity as Mansoor.

Motive behind the hoax:

Investigations revealed that Mansoor had fabricated the bomb threat story out of personal animosity towards his business competitors. Previously, Mansoor owned a provision store near KR Market, which he had to shut down due to financial losses. He then started a scrap business, which also failed to succeed. Frustrated with his circumstances, Mansoor developed a grudge against six business rivals and devised the hoax to create trouble for them.

Mansoor confessed to making the false call in an attempt to implicate his rivals. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, sources confirmed.

The authorities have reiterated the seriousness of such hoax calls and assured strict action against individuals attempting to misuse emergency services for personal vendettas.
