A man was arrested for obstructing police duties during a raid on illegal sand transport near Kukkundoor Sarvajnya Circle.

The accused, identified as Syed Saif (22), a resident of Kukkundoor, was apprehended along with his car.

On January 3, Karkala Town Police Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar Shetty was inspecting vehicles. The police chased a tipper truck transporting sand illegally.

Syed Saif attempted to block the police vehicle to help the tipper truck escape. He was acting as an escort for the tipper truck and suddenly drove in front of a departmental police vehicle thus blocking its path and facilitating the tipper truck to escape.

He was tested for substance abuse after arrest, and it was confirmed that he had consumed marijuana.

A case has been registered at the Karkala Town Police Station, and Syed Saif has been taken into custody along with his vehicle.
