The Ambalpadi-based Udupi Savita Samaja Vividhodhesha Sowharda Sahakari Sangha has emerged as a model organization among cooperative societies by focusing on community-oriented initiatives. Along with fostering the development of its community, it has significantly contributed to society.

Relief and Assistance
Established in 2007, the Sangha distributed high-quality grocery kits worth over Rs 9 lakh twice during the COVID-19 pandemic to the barber community. Under the “Savita Senior Citizens Pension” scheme, pensions are provided to senior members aged 60 and above, and to elderly members aged 75 and above. Around 100 beneficiaries are covered under this scheme.

Key Initiatives
“Savita Arogyashree” Insurance Scheme
Under this scheme, members maintaining active transactions with the Sangha can avail insurance benefits ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 for hospital expenses faced by them or their families due to health issues. Additionally, under the “Nidhiagu Neragu” initiative, a death benefit of Rs 10,000 is provided to the family of deceased members on the same day.

“Kshourika Koushalabhivraddhi” Scheme
This scheme encourages the youth to take up the traditional barber profession. Trainees in this field are provided an annual incentive of Rs 12,000.

“Namma Sahakari Namma Mane” Housing Loan Scheme
Loans up to Rs 25 lakh are provided at an interest rate of 7.5%. Thirteen individuals have benefited from this scheme so far.

“Namma Sahakari Namma Vahana” Vehicle Loan Scheme
Under this scheme, vehicle loans are offered at an interest rate of 8.5%. Fifteen beneficiaries have availed this facility.

Loans for New Salons and Renovation
Loans up to Rs 2 lakh are provided at zero interest for one year, followed by a 10% interest rate. Forty individuals have benefited from this initiative.

“Savita Sahayahasta” Emergency Loan Scheme
Personal loans of up to Rs 3 lakh are provided under this scheme, with around 100 beneficiaries.

“Namma Sahakari Namma Shikshana” Education Loan Scheme
Loans of up to Rs 5 lakh at an interest rate of 9% are provided for higher education to children of barbers. Five individuals have benefited.

“Savita Vivaha Loan” Marriage Loan Scheme
Loans are provided at lower interest rates to assist with marriage expenses. Twelve individuals have availed this scheme.

Recognition with Excellence Award
For its community service during the COVID-19 crisis, the Sangha was honored with the “Best Souharda Cooperative Award” at the 67th National Cooperative Convention in Chikkaballapur in 2020.

Clinical Laboratory Services
For the first time in cooperative society history, the organization established a clinical laboratory to ensure high-quality and affordable medical testing services for the community. Tests such as blood, urine, and sputum analysis are conducted with accuracy, reliability, and timely delivery of results.

The laboratory employs modern medical equipment and experienced biochemists to ensure precision and quality. Home collection services for bedridden and elderly patients are also provided. Members receive a 15–20% discount on these services.
