Union Govt to extend duration of Areca Nut support price soon: Nirmala Sitharaman

Puttur: The union government will soon release an order to extend the duration of support price declared for areca nut growers of Karnataka as the last date to obtain support price by selling the commodity has ended on December 31, said Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman speaking to the reporters during her visit to Dakshina Kannada on Thursday.

Speaking to the reporters she said, the union government will issue an order stating the new duration for the areca nut to be procured by the government agencies and cooperatives in Karnataka state. The problems faced by the areca growers has also been bring to the notice of the union agriculture minister also to support the farmers, she said.
