VTU to re-conduct exams for students who received USN late

Belagavi: VTU is all set to conduct practical exams for a second time after the varsity realized that students who answered their exams for various semesters in November/December 2016 did so without the mandatory Universal Student Numbers (USN).
The decision was taken after the officials realized the mistake. Thus, several students who are at present on vacation would be forced to return to colleges to answer exams scheduled for January 18-19.
Sources say that the USN was vital as it maintained records as well as determined which student did what practical or activity.
The next semester begins on February 2 and students would be forced to cut short their vacation and answer practical exams for a second time.
Meanwhile, sources in the VTU are allegedly blaming the changes in the varsity’s official guard as the entire setup from the Vice-Chancellor to Registrar and Registrar (Evaluation) had new faces. It is said that that could have been the reason for the confusion. Still others blame it on the lethargy of a few officials.
VTU’s Registrar (Evaluation) Professor Satish Annigeri said that due to unavoidable circumstances, USN was issued to a few students after the practical exams were completed and only such students would have to answer the exams a second time. He said that Principals of affiliated Engineering colleges had been instructed to submit names of such students.
