Govt discussing scrapping of II PU marks while considering CET ranks

Bengaluru: The State government is contemplating on considering only Common Entrance Test (CET) marks for ranks instead of the II PUC and the CET marks.

At present, both the CET and PU marks are considered for students vying for seats in Engineering and other professional courses.

It is said that in 2016, ranks for all courses except Dental, Medical and Veterinary were calculated using PU and CET marks.

Authorities are now discussing the pros and cons regarding the decision as it would have far-reaching consequences on how students would prepare for the CET.

Though there is difference of opinion, experts say that since students answer PUC exams under different boards, like Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE), Central Board of Secondary Education and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, considering only CET scores was a good move.

Now, teachers are worried that the move might be implemented in 2017 and that students would focus only on the entrance exam. Students opine that they had already begun preparing for the board exams and if they knew that it would be changed, they would have concentrated more on the CET exam.
