Another War for Water: Protesters call for Hospet Bandh Today

Hospet: Protesters have took streets and called for Hospet town bandh on Saturday urging the Tungabhadra Board (TB) officials to release water from Tungabhadra reservoir immediately for plantain, sugarcane and other crops of the taluks of Bellary district through the canals immediately. Hospet town is expected to remain closed today as shops, transport facilities, business activities didn’t function as usual in the early hours of the day.

The police have taken necessary security arrangements at Hospet town to prevent any mishap amid expected violent protests. The crops grown in the region have started drying and farmers are facing loss of crop due to water scarcity. Meanwhile, the TB officials have said that the reservoir doesn’t has enough water to release it for farming activities in Bellary district.
