Section 144 imposed after police station set to fire in Gadag on alleged lockup death

Gadag: Section 144 has been imposed on Sunday at clash hit Lakshmeshwara police station area in Shirahatti taluk of Gadag district as the villagers took rule of law into their hand on Sunday on alleged lockup death case.  Earlier, the police lathi charged on the gathering slightly to control the agitators. However, they failed as large number of people started attacking the police verbally.

The villagers have said that they won’t allow anyone to take the dead body of the deceased from the station till the arrival driver of the police jeep and a police constable who allegedly beaten the accused to death. The both were run away from the spot after the death of the youth.

The protestors have alleged that the lorry driver, Shivappa Goli (21) was arrested by the police on Saturday evening for transporting sand illegally.  Later, the driver was allegedly died as the police beaten him severely.  Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to control the situation.

A police jeep, two bikes have been damaged in the incident whereas the protesters set fire to the police station also. Properties’ belong to Lakshmeshwara police station have been destroyed in the fire.  The police personnel have run from the spot as the condition get worsen earlier in the morning.
