Govt, aided schools across state to have common annual exams for Classes IV, VI

Bengaluru: The state government has decided that from this year annual exams for students studying in Classes IV and VI in government and aided schools would be held simultaneously with a common paper.

The decision is said to affect government and aided schools throughout the state.

So far the exams were being held at the school level.

Sources say that question papers would be prepared and answer scripts evaluated at the inter-educational block level. The examinations, scheduled to begin on March 6 will be conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board.

Students in Class IV will have common exams in Kannada, English, Mathematics and Environmental Studies while Class VI students will have in Kannada, English, Hindi and Mathematics.

Further, officials have informed that the exams were being held only to assess the learning levels and there would be no declaration of “pass” or “fail.”

They state that the exams were part of the continuous and comprehensive evaluation taken up by Karnataka School Quality Assessment Council; it is said that after the evaluation, special attention would be given to students with low learning abilities.
