Dharwad: A 17-year-old boy woke up on the way to his funeral, surprising his relatives who had presumed him dead. Kumar Marewad, a school dropout who worked as a construction labourer, is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Kumar, a resident of Managundi village in Dharwad district, was bitten by a stray dog a month ago and was down with high fever. As his health began to deteriorate, he was admitted to a hospital and put on a ventilator support. The doctors had informed Kumar’s relatives that the infection had spread to Kumar’s body and his condition was critical and that he would not survive if life support was removed.
Noticing no body movement or breathing, Kumar’s family presumed him dead. They then made arrangements for his funeral and headed straight to perform his last rites. Barely two kilometers from the village where the funeral was to take place, Kumar opened his eyes, moving his hands and legs and started breathing fast. Soon, he was rushed to a hospital for further treatment.
