Bengaluru: Karnataka State government will start 198 ‘Namma Canteens’ to provide food for all at subsidized rate in Bengaluru soon. The proposed canteens are expected to function as like ‘Amma Canteen’ of Tamil Nadu started by late former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa to provide food for all especially for lower strata of the society which includes daily laborers, beggars and others, said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presenting his 12th state budget for 2017-18 at the state legislative assembly session in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Under this new system the consumers can obtain breakfast at Rs 5 and lunch at Rs 10. The government will look after the management of the canteens. The upcoming Namma Canteens are expected to hit the transactions of the street food vendors, small hotels negatively in the state capital.

Meanwhile, supporting economically backward sections of the society, the Karnataka government has decided to raise the quantity of rice from 5 kg to 7 kg  being distributed at the ration shops in the state under Anna Bhagya scheme. Also, the quantity of the rice supplied to the families under Anna Bhagya has been raised to 35 kgs per month.  Also, Anganavadi children will have eggs  for two days and milk for five days in a week under Kshira Bhagya scheme in Karnataka state, the chief minister said.
