Chennai: Amid series of development with regard to the merger of two AIADMK warring factions in Tamil Nadu, Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to give extension of time to both AIADMK factions for submitting documents affidavits to prove their claims.

Petitioner E Madhusudhanan, who is with rebel AIADMK led by O Panneerselvam, sought four weeks of additional time to file supporting affidavits to claim that the party and the symbol belongs to his group.

Respondent V K Sasikala from AIADMK “Amma” group also sought further time of eight weeks to file the documents and affidavits by which they propose to prove their numerical strength in the organisational wing of the party.

“The Commission has considered the requests of both the groups and has decided to give extension of time to them for submitting of all such documents and affidavits on which they propose to rely on their respective claims till June 16, 2017”, ECI said in its order.

The Commission once again made it clear that neither of the two groups shall be permitted to use the name of the party — “All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam” (AIADMK) simpliciter.

“Neither of the two groups shall also be permitted to use the symbol “Two Leaves, reserved for AIADMK”, the commission said.
