Kasaragod: Kannada teachers in Kasaragod district boycotted mid summer teachers’ training course registering their protests against Kerala state government’s decision to make Malayalam as a compulsory language from first standard in all state run and aided schools in the state. Earlier, Kerala state assembly was passed a bill making Malayalam as a compulsory subject. The members of Kannada medium teachers’ association organised protests against the state government on Tuesday in Kumble to withdraw the decision making Malayalam as mandatory subject in the schools of Kasaragod district.
“Making Malayalam language as a compulsory subject in the schools of Kasaragod district is expected to eventually vanish the presence of Kannada language in Kasaragod, a region of undivided Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state,” said Kerala Kannada Medium Teachers Association Secretary K Subramanya Bhat speaking in the protests organised here in Kumble. Kannadigas, residing in Kerala should join their hands with Kannada teachers of Kasaragod to protect the interest of ‘Gadinadu Kannadigas’ in Kerala.
