Bengaluru: South West monsoon is expected to reach Karnataka by the end of May and monsoon rain is very likely to begin nearly a week earlier than usual, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials. Normally, monsoon rainy season begins from the first week of June, however, this year the rainy season is expected to start from a week earlier.

According to IMD, the monsoon winds are very likely to reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 15 and 12 days lag is essential for the winds to hit Kerala coast on May 25. Once monsoon rain hits Kerala coast, then the winds can reach Karnataka within 48 hours duration. However, the rains are highly dependent on flow and speed of the winds, temperature and other factors.
