Bengaluru: Karnataka state cabinet decided to provide rice at free of cost to old age homes, welfare trusts, orphanages and others under ‘Dasoha Scheme’, said Karnataka State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs TB Jayachandra speaking in a press conference here in the state capital on Wednesday.
Earlier, rice was being distributed at Rs 5.60 per kilogram to these organisations/institutions under union government’s ‘other welfare scheme’. Now, the state government is expected to spend Rs 34.4 crore annually for the new Dasoha scheme introduced.
The cabinet is also approved to raise the quantity of the rice being distributed under Anna Bhagya from 5 kg to 7 kg. As per the demand raised by the North Karnataka residents, Wheat will be distributed instead of rice being distributed under Annabhagya scheme, minister said.
