Chikkamagaluru: A counterfeit Rs 2,000 note was found in a bundle of currency notes at a nationalized bank at Sringeri in the district on Friday. The incident came into light when the bank staff verified the bundle they received for deposit through a customer.
It is said that the counterfeit note was printed carefully and included key features of an authentic currency note.
Though initially the staff failed to recognize the counterfeit note, they were suspicious and on checking found that the note failed to exhibit certain features of an authentic note.
Earlier, the Reserve Bank had taken precautionary measures to prevent the printing of counterfeit notes in the denomination of 2,000.
