Talapady: Kannada activists, leaders Sa Ra Govindu, Praveen Shetty, Vatal Nagaraj and others were arrested by the police when they forcefully shut Karnataka-Kerala boarder at Talapady and tried to enter Kerala state through ‘Kasaragod Chalo’ march on Thursday. Kannada organizations led by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike shut Karnataka-Kerala border to protest against Kerala state government’s decision to make Malayalam as compulsory subject in schools in the state including Kannada medium schools.

Kerala government’s move is expected to adversely impact Kannadigas residing in Kasaragod district of the state by ruining their culture, local languages and others. With compulsory Malayalam subject, the students should study a language in addition to Kannada, Hindi and English.

Kasragod Chalo march flagged off in Udupi and it reached Talapady via Padubidri and Mangaluru. The activists managed to stop vehicular movement on Mangaluru-Kasaragod national highway urging justice of Gadinadu Kannadigas.
