Bengaluru: Namma Metro on its Purple line (East-West) is most likely to run a metro every three minutes during peak hours after it opens the remaining stretch of the Green Line to the public, where the frequency will be every six minutes.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola said, “We estimate that the load on Purple Line (Baiyyappanahalli with Mysore Road) will be more and so the frequency can touch three minutes. On the entire North-South line, we will run trains every six minutes during peak hours,” he said, adding that the frequency will come down to four minutes gradually.

“Green Line has 29 of the 50 trains. We have to transfer three trains to Purple Line to manage the crowd. If that falls short, we will run the short-loop service,” Kharola said.

President Pranab Mukherjee would be launching the Sampige Road-Yelachenahalli stretch on the Green line (North-South) on Saturday. The launch of the line will operationalize the entire 42km Phase I network and enable commuters to switch between north-south and east-west corridor at Majestic interchange.

“We have received approval to run the trains at a maximum speed of 90 km/hr. Apart from this, a few passengers amenities-related corrections were suggested. We are working on these and will send the compliance report across in the next few days,” he said.

Adding that they had already ordered 150 bogies from BEML, Kharola said they would also be pressed into action.
