Bengaluru: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has named former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy (HDK) as third accused in Janthakal Mining Scam. Former chief minister is very likely to be arrested by the SIT for further interrogation, sources said.

The second accused in the case, senior IAS officer Gangaram Baderia reportedly stated before the SIT that he illegally permitted Janthakal Mining Company for its mining activities in Bellary after HDK asked him to do so. Following the statement from the senior IAS officer, SIT is very likely to arrest HDK in-connection to the case.

HDK has already approached the high court seeking anticipatory bail in the case and the hearing on the petition is expected to be held today, June 16. Four FIRs have already been registered against former chief minister in-connection to the mining scam.
