Govt to Install Statue of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda at Bengaluru International Airport

Bengaluru: Karnataka state government will install a statue of Kempegowda, founder of Bengaluru city in Bengaluru international airport. The state will also seek the support of the centre install such a statue to recall his contribution. The government is also planning to rename one of the campuses of Bangalore University in the name of Kempegowda, said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking at the birth anniversary celebrations of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda at Karnataka Legislature in the state capital on Tuesday. For the first time, Karnataka government is organising an event to commemorate the contributions of Kempegowda to present Karnataka state.
“Kempegowda as a founder of Bengaluru provided much importance to lakes and other water reservoirs in his Bengaluru city. However, at present such lakes have been encroached or filled with garbage and the efforts are on to convert present garbage city into garden city again,” chief minister added.
Congratulating the state government and ministers for organising such an event to recall Nadaprabhu, JDS national president HD Deve Gowda said, “Kempegowda built a full-fledged city with lakes to provide better irrigation facility to the public. However, most of the lakes have disappeared now.” Meanwhile, the state government has released a circular asking all taluk, district administrations to celebrate Kempegowda birth anniversary by the end of August to recall his contribution.
