Overnight rains bring mercury down in Delhi

New Delhi : Delhiites woke up to a partly cloudy morning today as the minimum temperature dropped by four notches following overnight rains.

Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered official for the city, received 52.6 mm rain in pre-monsoon showers in the last 24 hours, leading to water-logging and traffic jams in several areas. The monsoon is expected to hit the national capital and neighbouring areas this week.

According to MeT department, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season’s average.The humidity level recorded at 8.30 AM was 98 per cent. The weatherman has predicted light spell of rain later in the day.

“Skies will remain partly cloudy throughout the day and light rain may occur in some areas of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius,” an official of the department said.

Yesterday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, while the maximum settled at 35 degrees Celsius.
