Karnataka Prison Row: DGP Inspects Parappana Agrahara Central Prison

Bengaluru: Director General of Prisons HN Satyanarayana Rao visited Parappana Agrahara Central Jail on Saturday and inspected jail inside and its premises. DGP also visited the cells allocated to the convicts AIADMK (Amma Group) General Secretary VK Sasikala and Abdul Karim Telgi.
Rao reportedly held meeting with the jail staff and verified old records and documents in the prison. The top cop reportedly left the jail without giving a statement to media on his visit.
His visit came in the wake of DIG D Roopa’s report to state home department and her subsequent media statement on the situation in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
In her report and statement to media, Roopa stated that she found irregularities in the central prison which violated jail code of conduct and law. DGP received a sum of Rs 2 crore as bribe and broke law to provide special facilities to AIADMK (Amma Group) General Secretary VK Sasikala in the prison. In addition to this, convicted counterfeiter Abdul Karim Telgi was seen enjoying special privileges in the jail breaking law in her recent visit to the jail.
Karnataka state government ordered for a high level probe into the allegations made by the police officer D Roopa. The sources said that, DIG visited the prison before the arrival of the high level investigation team at the jail from state police department which began investigation on prison allegations.
