Bengaluru: As many as 32 prisoners have been transferred from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to other jails located in the state amid alleged irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara prison. Jail authorities reportedly transferred the prisoners in an attempt to destroy the evidence which may prove the irregularities found in the prison during the visit of Prisons DIG D Roopa recently to the prison.
Following a state government’s decision, an investigation team led by ex IAS Officer Vinaykumar has began its investigation into the reported irregularities and is expected to hold an enquiry with jail staff and prisoners on July 17. Prior to the visit of the investigation team, the jail staff may have transferred the prisoners to destroy the evidence which could adversely impact them during the investigation as they have alleged role in the violation of jail rules.
DIG stated in the two reports submitted to the state home department that the jail authorities violated law and prisoners including jail authorities indulged in irregularities. She directly alleged that Prisons DGP HN Satyanarayana Rao obtained bribe of Rs 2 crore from AIADMK (Amma Group) general secretary VK Sasikala to provide special privileges to her in the jail.
Following the suspicion that, the prisoner may register their statement before the investigation team against the reported irregularities in the jail, 32 suspected prisoners which may speak against jail staff have been transferred to Mysuru, Belagavi and Bellary jails by the prison authorities. The prisoners have also beaten seriously after clashes occurred some of the prisoners supported the move of DIG while some others opposed her report during her last visit to the prison.
Meanwhile, speaking on the transfer of the prisoners, the jail authorities said that the prisoners have been transferred to maintain peace and security in the central prison here.
