Bengaluru: Karnataka state government has transferred Prisons DIG D Roopa to traffic department as DGP in an order on Monday. According to a government order Roopa and other four IPS officers including Prisons DGP AN Satyanarayana Rao have been transferred to new positions.
The transfer order came amid Parappana Agarahara Central Prison row which created chaos at police department and state government level. The Parappana Agarahara Prison row erupted after Roopa stated in her two reports submitted to the state home department that the authorities at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison violated law and prisoners including jail authorities have indulged in irregularities. She directly alleged that Prisons DGP HN Satyanarayana Rao obtained bribe of Rs 2 crore from AIADMK (Amma Group) general secretary VK Sasikala to provide special privileges to her in the jail.
Her two reports submitted and subsequent statement to media created controversy in the police department and forced the state government to order for a high level enquiry into the prison row. The investigation team is yet to visit the prison to evaluate the situation.
