Hr: 30,000 power theft cases detected in three months

Chandigarh: Cracking down on illegal power consumption in the state, the Haryana government has found 30,000 cases of electricity theft and imposed a penalty of Rs 97 crore on the offenders.
A spokesman of the Haryana Power Utilities today said they have achieved a huge success by reducing line losses by five percent in last one year.
As a result of this, consumers are paying bills regularly are getting the benefits in terms of concession in electricity bills, the spokesman said here.
He said teams of power utilities and vigilance officials conducted raids across the state in the last three months and slapped a penalty of Rs 97 crore in 30,000 cases of electricity theft and the people have also shown support by giving information about such cases.
“As a result of the campaign, the demand for electricity has reduced upto 200 MW as compared to previous year,” he added.
The spokesman said that the Power Utilities have made a significant reduction in the Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) from September last year. The FSA has been reduced by 37 paisa per unit from September 1 by 40-60 paisa per unit from April 1, 2017, and by 28 paisa per unit from July 1, 2017.
