Bengaluru: The members of Youth Congress under the leadership of the state president Basanagouda Badarli organized a massive candle light march on July 22 late evening in the state capital to mark their protest against the central government’s failure to waive off the loans of the farmers in Karnataka state.  Thus in a unique way, the members urged Prime Minister Modi to announce farmers loan waiver immediately.

The protestors gathered at Brigade Road and marched towards to the Gandhi statue through MG road where they lit candles and offered their respects to the father of the nation.  The members wrote hand written get well soon messages to the prime minister and got it collected to be sent to the PMO

This silent and unique protest comes in wake of the widespread sufferings that the poor farmers of Karnataka are facing during to prolonged droughts in the state. The congress led state government came to the rescue of these farmers and waived off Rs8,165 crore worth of crop loans taken from cooperative banks by poor farmers in distress.

Speaking on the occasion, Basanagouda Badarli, said “the farmers in our state are in deep trouble. Ever since the BJP government has come to power, we have been the most neglected state in the country. Just because the people of Karnataka have chosen the congress party to power, the prime minister and his cabinet of ministers have simply neglected the state. While the chief minister has come to the rescue of more than 2,227,506 farmers in the state, why can’t the central government come off and do their bit ?,” he questioned.
