Protesters Start Fast Unto Death in Navalgund for Mahadayi Project

Navalgund: Pakshathitha Horata Samithi President, Lokanatha Hebasuru and retired teacher DV Kurahatti have begun fast unto death on Friday at Navalgund town in Dharwad district urging the state government to implement Mahadayi project, to provide compensation to the farmers who injured in police assault during their protests for Mahadayi project earlier.

Speaking here in Navalgund town, Lokanatha said, Karnataka government should announce Navalgund taluk as drought hit region to sanction special package to the distressed farmers immediately. Answering to a question he said that he would continue his fast unto death till the state government takes an appropriate stand on Mahadayi issue.

Meanwhile, the protesting farmers have warned that Karnataka government would be responsible for the consequences of fast unto death by the duo; Lokanatha Hebasura (55) and DB Kurahatti (77) as they have been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
