Karnataka to Import Sand from Abroad

Bengaluru: Karnataka state government has decided to import sand from foreign countries following severe shortage of sand and legal issues related to sand in the state said Karnataka state Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs TB Jayachandra speaking to media persons in Bengaluru on Monday.
The state government is planning to import the sand through Mysore Sales International Limited, (MSIL) company and in the initial stage sand would be imported from Malaysia. The sand is very likely to be sold at Rs 3, 500 per ton, the minister added. Sand import is expected to curb illegal sand mining and all other issues related sand in Karnataka.
