Panchacharyas Urge Lingayats, Veerashaivas to Remain United

Bengaluru: Panchacharyas who represent Veerashaivaism, some leaders, seers of Lingayat community objected the move to split Lingayatism into two separate religions/communities as Lingayat and Veerashaiva in a meeting organised in Bengaluru on Wednesday. In the meeting organised, all the participants decided to urge the government for 15% reservation for Lingayat community instead of creating further divisions within the community.
Veerashaiva seers from Kashi, Ujjain, Rambhapuri and Srishaila peethams and others opined not to divide Lingayat community into two separate religions instead the participants decided to move together in the future for the wellbeing of the community. However, Kedar Veerashaiva Seer opined that Lingayat community should be dived into two as decided by other Lingayat leaders and seers earlier.
The meeting also decided to hold conventions, meetings and others in the future to protect the religion from further divisions. Huge rallies, conventions are expected to be held at various parts of the country in September 2017 in an attempt to prevent further divisions within the Lingayat community, sources said.
