Bengaluru: Students shut as many as 135 engineering colleges in Karnataka on Friday to urge concerned authorities to resolve various issues faced by the students of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) immediately.
Some of the teachers at engineering colleges under VTU have also joined with the students to end the chaos in the colleges which function under the university. Earlier, a panel of various students’ organizations had called for statewide shutdown of the engineering colleges to express their anger over the issue. Engineering colleges in Davangere, Bengaluru and other parts of the state remained closed following the protests and the bandh call received a good response in the region.
The students urged the concerned authorities to introduce supplementary examination system in the university as there is significant reduction in the number of pass outs every year as the university is following CBCS curriculum.
CBCS curriculum has turned into a headache for the students and teachers due to huge syllabus structure. Teachers reportedly struggling to complete the syllabus portions in every semester while students struggling to pass their exams. The students have also asked to end year back system followed by the university.
