ASHAs Call off 2 Day Long Strike in Karnataka after State Govt’s Bundle of Assurances

Bengaluru: Accredited social health activists (ASHAs) ended their two day long day-night strike in the state capital on Friday night on the state government’s assurance that the workers will be given a monthly honorarium of Rs 3,500.

Earlier, the protesters urged the state government that they should be paid Rs 6, 000 as monthly incentive despite incentives being provided by the central government. After two hour long discussion, Karnataka state Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar assured the union leaders that a monthly incentive of Rs 3500 will be given to the workers with other benefits.

Karnataka state government has assured the ASHAs that the monthly incentive will be raised from existing Rs 1,000 to Rs 3, 500 along with free bus pass facility, central government’s incentives based on the performance, loan for self employment at zero per cent interest, sites to build houses and a compensation of Rs 50,000 for premature death of the worker.
