Bengaluru: Eight Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) workers have been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for their role in destruction of public property during the protests organised by KRV to condemn Supreme Courts direction to Karnataka state to release water from River Cauvery to Tamil Nadu.

According to an order from the 56th ACMM court in Bengaluru on Thursday, the accused Nilakanta Gowda, Raghu Gowda, Kumar, Narasimha, Srinivas, Satheesh and Deepak were convicted and sentenced to two year jail term after a five year long trial.

The incident occurred in December 2012 following the judgment passed by the Apex Court on Cauvery water issue. The eight convicted reportedly attacked central government offices in the state capital to register their anger on Apex Court judgment. A case had been registered on the incident at Malleshwaram police station in the state capital on the incident. Meanwhile, the court has suspended its judgment and granted conditional bail to all the convicts after considering their bail petition filed.
