Bhatkal Turns Tensed as Shop Owner Dies in Suicide Attempt

Bhatkal: Police forces have been deployed in Bhatkal town and nearby areas after tensions erupted on September 16 as a shop owner died following a suicide attempt reported in the town on Thursday.
Situation turned tensed as the dead body of Ramachandra Naika reached Bhatkal town from Manipal on Saturday morning. As many as 500 police personnel have been deployed in the area and Superintendent of police (SP) Vinayak Patil is closely monitoring the security situation.
The shop owner, Ramachandra Naika tried to end his life by self-immolation when the authorities from Bhatkal Town Municipal Council (BTMC) came to seize his shop for open auction located at the limits of BTMC on Thursday.
The victim brought to a private hospital in Manipal with 50% burn injuries and he was reportedly died on Friday late night after his condition turned critical. Earlier, BTMC was moved with legal formalities for open auction of shops in the town even if there were protests by the people on the move, sources said.
