Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged the people to take a pledge to make cleanliness a way of life, keep their minds free from all negativity and ingrain themselves with positive thoughts and ethical values.
“Good deeds and clean thoughts are the prerequisite for good governance and public representatives and government servants must be upright and show integrity in their work’, the Chief Minister said while participating in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations along with Swacch Bharat Divas.
The event also coincided with the closing ceremony of ‘Swacchta Hi Seva’ at Bihpuria Sports Association Playground in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. Recalling Gandhiji’s teachings of peace, Sonowal said the whole world is following his ideology to develop a peaceful world. “We need to develop the personality of youths based on positivity and ethical values”, he added.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to the countrymen to commit themselves to the cause of making India a ‘swacch’ nation, Sonowal lauded the people of the state for their spontaneous response to his call. He also highlighted the potentiality of the rich bio-diversity of the state and urged people to contribute in making Assam a sought-after tourist destination.
The Chief Minister offered floral tribute to the Father of the Nation at the venue prior to the celebration.
