Elephants Return to Forest Camps after Grand Mysuru Dasara

Mysuru: The elephants who participated in Dasara celebrations have returned to their respective forest camps from Mysuru palace on Tuesday. The elephants took two day long relaxation before their departure after Jamboo Savari which concluded on September 30.

Out of 15 elephants, 12 elephants returned to their camp while three elephants have been retained for shifting an elephant from Mysuru zoo to Animal Rescue Centre at Koorgalli. Arjuna, Balarama, Bheema, Gopi, Gopalaswamy, Kaveri, Vijaya, Varalakshmi, Drona, Prashantha, Vikrama and Harsha were returned to forest camp. Remaining three elephants, Gajendra, Abhimanyu and Krishna will remain in Myruru until they complete their job.

Mahouts, Kavadis and their family members, who hail from various forest camps in Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar district have returned to their native places from Mysuru.

The elephants were given a farewell ceremony held at the premises of Mysuru palace on Tuesday. Mysuru Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Y Yedukondalu and officers from forest department bid adieu to all the elephants. Each elephants was transported through a truck.
