Police seizes 1000 kg of ganja, arrests two persons

Kohima: The Kohima Police today seized 1000 kg of ganja worth Rs 50 lakh and arrested two persons for smuggling the contraband. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (South) Atu Zumvu said the seizure and arrest was made at around 6 am this morning by Kohima Police manning Phesama check gate.
He said the police personnel while conducting routine checking and frisking of vehicles intercepted a Dimapur bound truck and seized a total of 1000 kg of contraband ganja worth Rs 50 lakh in the market. The ganja was neatly packed in packets and concealed inside a special compartment of the truck body especially designed for transporting illegal consignments, he said.
The driver of the vehicle and his accomplice, both hailing from Tadubi under Sanapati district of Manipur were taken into police custody, the SDPO said. During initial interrogation, the driver revealed that the consignment was loaded from Mao and that he was assured cash for transporting it to Dimapur, the police added.
