Mumbai: 17-year-old, Sanya Runwal proved that teenagers in the country today are all-round achievers, with the launch of her first book – “Ten dollar bride.” The new writer on the block has created headlines in the past for setting up a foundation that aims to provide low-cost and high-quality menstrual hygiene products. Inspired by real-life events, the book showcases an unflinching account of many young girls in India who live in the shadow of our country’s ruthless patriarchal setup. Social Activist and Eminent Banker, Smt. Amruta Fadnavis graced the book launch, which was held at Crosswords, Kemps Corner.
The launch was hosted by award-winning author Ravi Subramanian, who spoke highly about Sanya’s debut as an author and her book. Commenting on her debut novel, Sanya commented, “My intent to write this book was to enable people to empathize with these girls even if they had never been in their position. I wanted to bring to light the critical situation that sadly exists in this day and age. The book has also been written with the intent that their stories urge everyone to collectively do something and rectify the wrong. I hope someday the sympathy we all have towards the victims of violence and injustice turns into significant actions.”
Smt. Amruta Fadnavis who has always been vocal about social issues and has worked towards a better today commented, “The book talks about the dark realities of life which Sanya has written so passionately about. She has delved into the truth which we shy away from. When such a young generation talks about such a stark reality, there is hope for the future.”
Speaking more on the book, Smt. Amruta commented,” I have seen a few cases of acid attacks, but the book has given me a real-time view. I think every woman is a powerhouse and they need to start standing up for themselves now.”
Having served as a catalyst for change in the society at a young age, Sanya intends to highlight the plight of young women in our country and propel action with her book – “Ten Dollar Bride.”
