Karnataka High Court Stays Govt’s ESMA Order Against BMRCL Staff

Bengaluru: Karnataka high court in an order stayed state government’s order under Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to prohibit Namma Metro workers from holding strike. In an interim order, Justice B Veerappa has stayed the government’s order on Saturday.
Earlier, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) staff had questioned the order from the state government under ESMA and urged the court to cancel the order. The state government had passed the order under ESMA after BMRCL staff stopped their work following a clash between BMRCL staff and Karnataka Industrial Security Force (KISF) personnel demanding justice in July, 2017.
