Veteran Theatre Director Prasanna Ends Indefinite Hunger Strike Against GST in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Veteran theatre personality broke his scheduled indefinite strike to urge the central government to withdraw Goods and Service Tax (GST) imposed on handmade products as it adversely impacts the rural economy. His decision to quit his 6 day long hunger strike came on Thursday evening following pressure from the public, his followers, fans and others to end his fast immediately.

Speaking to media persons soon after the end of his hunger strike here on October 19, Prasanna warned the governments that there would be severe protests if the concerned fail to take measures to withdraw GST imposed on handmade products including handlooms, handicrafts, jewelleries and others.

He blamed the government for neglecting India’s rural economy where number of artisans, workers, suppliers, skilled labourers are depend upon handmade products for their livelihood. Earlier, the senior artist started his fast unto death at Nidumamidi Mutt in Basavanagudi of the state capital seven days ago.
