Kushalnagar: Retired government employees, members of various local organizations, advocates and others have joined an agitation demanding a new separate Cauvery taluk in Kodagu district with Kushalnagar as taluk headquarters. The protests for a new taluk have entered eighth day on October 22.

The protesters have been urging the concerned authorities to carve out new taluk from Somwarpet taluk of the district. Kushalnagar town has enough facilities and people need not to run from pillar to post to fulfill their requirements if new taluk emerges according to their demand.

Kushalnagar has enough infrastructure facilities and it should be declared as the head quarter of Cauvery taluk which to be formed. The protesters are expected to hold a massive rally on October 30 to put further pressure on the government on the issue.

The protesters alleged that, the state government neglected the naming Cauvery taluk when it listed new taluks recently and this move forced the people in the region to start protests as they have been demanding for a new taluk for some time.
