Bengaluru: A meeting presided by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided not to ask the resignation of state minister for urban planning and development KJ George after Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the name of the minister in its first information report (FIR) on Thursday   inconnection with the mysterious death of police officer DYSP MK Ganapathi last year.

Speaking in a press conference after the meeting on Friday in the state capital, chief minister said, the FIR registered by CBI is a continuation of previous FIR registered at local police station soon after the death of the police officer in Kodagu district. CBI hasn’t yet registered any fresh FIR in the case therefore the minister is need not resign as asked by the opposition, chief minister clarified.

The Apex Court in an order on September 5 handed over the investigation to CBI following a petition from M K Kushalappa, father of late MK Ganapathi. In its order on September 5, Supreme Court didn’t mention the name of KJ George and hadn’t verified B report filed. Therefore there is no evidence against the minister to resign, Siddaramaiah clarified.

Chief Minister also alleged, the FIR registered against the minister is a conspiracy of opposition BJP as the BJP led Central Government has influenced the investigation agency to use it as a political tool against Karnataka state government to spoil its image.

Inconnection with the mysterious death of the police officer, CBI also registered case against Karnataka Lokayukta Inspector General of Police (IGP), Pranab Mohanty and State Intelligence Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AM Prasad.
