Bengaluru: BJP unit in Karnataka decided to hold statewide mass protest programmes if state urban development minister KJ George fails to resign as demanded by it. BJP insisted minister’s resignation after he named as first accused in the First Information Report (FIR) by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inconnection with mysterious death of police officer, DYSP Ganapathi last year.

Besides George, former IGP (Lokayukta) Pranov Mohanty and ex-ADG of police (state intelligence) A M Prasad have been named in the FIR inconnection with the death of DYSP on July, 7, 2017 at Madikeri in Kodagu district of Karnataka.

“Since the CBI has named George as the first accused, I demand his resignation immediately,” state unit BJP president B S Yeddyurappa told reporters here in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The BJP leader brushed aside Congress’s allegations that it was an act of vendetta against its leaders, saying the CBI had named George as first accused after the Supreme Court ordered the investigating agency to probe the case.

“It was Ganapathi’s father who had moved the Supreme Court, which ordered CBI inquiry, and hence, there is no question of vendetta politics played by the BJP here,” BS Yeddyurappa said. He also sought security for Ganapathi’s family.
