Karnataka Gets Neelmani N. Raju as First Woman DGP

Bengaluru: Karnataka state government has appointed IPS Officer, Neelmani N. Raju, as Director General and Inspector General of Police (Head of Police Force) in an order released on Tuesday. She took charge as head of police force in Karnataka on Tuesday.  Earlier, she was Director General of Police, Internal Security, Bengaluru. She is succeeded by Rupak Kumar Dutta, IPS who retired from service on October 31.

In an event organised at police headquarters in Bengaluru on October 31 evening, RK Dutta handed over the charge of DGP to newly appointed police officer.

Earlier, the state government had decided to appoint IPS officer, Kannadiga, HC Kishore Chandra as DGP. However, the decision was changed at last minute and Neelmani appointed as first lady top cop in Karnataka state.

Speaking to media, Neelmani said, maintaining peace and security during the next assembly elections for the smooth conduction of the election process is next challenge of her police force. She also expressed her gratitude for Karnataka chief minister and home minister for appointing her as DGP of Karnataka state.
