Belagavi: Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha President Vatal Nagaraj and other members of Kannada outfits have been detained by the police near Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi on Sunday. The leaders and his supporters arrested when they protested against Karnataka government even if section 144 is being imposed within 1 kilometer long area covering Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
Vatal and his followers reached Vidhana Soudha in a bid to register their anger against the state government as it allegedly failed to address the issues of the people in North Karnataka properly. The protesters also pressured the government to take appropriate action for the development of northern districts of the state.
Vatal Nagaraj urged the state government to release a white paper on the development programmes implemented on North Karnataka region for upliftment of the people. He also asked the state government to focus the issues being raised by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) which allegedly intended to include Belagavi with the state of Maharashtra.
He also expressed his concern over dominating Marathi groups in the Belagavi which target Kannadigas and Kannada to kick out the both from Belagavi. Section 144 will remain in force for 10 days from November 13 from 06.00 AM to 06.00 PM according to an order from Belagavi Commissioner, TG Krishna Bhat.
