End of sub-standard helmets in Mysuru

Mysuru: In a crackdown by the Mysuru police, thousands of two-wheeler riders and pillion riders wearing substandard helmets without ISI certification were seized on Tuesday.

The action by the police authorities was a result of raiding on roadside dealers and shops that were selling substandard helmets.

The motorists who were caught by the police refused to give away the helmets and argued with the police. By afternoon, the shops in the city selling helmets were crowded by motorists to buy helmets adhering to Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The seized helmets were piled up by the roadside and later taken away to the nearest police station.

However, the police did not penalise the motorist for wearing substandard helmets on Tuesday but ensured penalties for the same will be collected from Wednesday.
